Christchurch earthquake
On Saturday in Christchurch there was a huge earthquake. The earthquake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. It was at 4:30 in the morning. It damaged over 10,000 houses. It will cost 3 billion dollars to repair the damaged city. Lots of people have come to help clean up the mess. There has been about 131 aftershocks. There is no power but there is water now. The schools are going to re open on Monday. The workers that have helped get paid 350 dollars a week. One person died of a heart attack and two other people got really bad injuries. There has also been a bit of flooding. It is going to take about 3 years to build the town back together. Familys have to go to welfare homes. The train tracks are all wonky and they are not suitable to drive on.
