on Wednesday morning it was a beautiful day at Manchester street school did there Cross country race at Victoria park. josh came first for the year three boys,Mackenzie came first for the year three girls, Madison came first for the year four girls,and Marrick came first for the year four boys.

Granny Visiting

This Sunday my granny from Switzerland is visiting my family!!! We will pick her up from the airport!!!! I love going to the airport!!!!! I can`t wait!!!!!!!! My granny buys lots of stuff for my sister and I!! My granny is going bring me some toys and chocolates!!!!!!!!!! I am going to have a wonderful time!!!

On the fifth of November two people Mary and Peter came to Manchester Street schools assembly hall.They came to tell people stories and plays to go with it.They did a puppet show with their puppet Bob.There was one really funny play called the seven dancing cows,Shayla was one of the cows same was Mackenzie it was about a man who plays his guitar and makes everyone dance even animals! the costumes were so funny Mary said the words and the the cows said what ever said the words or if she said fall down the cows fell down.That was the best performance in the whole thing.Then she did a play called the old lady who swollowed a fly it was really funny the whole time was funny it was the best show i had seen in a long time.

On the fifth of November two people Mary and Peter came to Manchester street schools assembly hall. They came to tell people stories and plays to go with it.They had a puppet called Bob and they put on a puppet show.There was one really funny play and I was in it.It was called the seven dancing cows.When they choose who was going to be who we had to play a air guitar.It was really embarrassing.I had to be a cow and so did Mackenzie our costumes were really warm so when we had to fall down I cuddled up in it.It felt like cats fur.Next Mary choose eight five year old kids to hold the fly,spider,bird,cat,dog,goat,cow,horse for the old women who swallowed a fly that was funny.It was cool having the story tellers coming to our school.

RoomM is learning about space. In week1
Room M went to the Cosmodome.It was set up in the hall.I really enjoyed it and I think the rest of the class enjoyed it as well.

In term four we went to the Cosmodome to learn about space. The person who took us was Mr Fisher. He told us about space,the sun,stars and planets. I saw some constellations on the top of the wall. Earth is the Goldilocks planet. It is not too hot and not too cold.

On Wednesday the 27th of October,Cross Country was held. I was in the year 4 boys race. All of the middle team races were won by our class! The race was very tiring but it was all worth it. All I could hear was"GO MARRICK"ringing in my ears. I was running, not jogging past the year 4 girls. I couldn't believe it I was at the finish line, but I came 13th! My Mum and Dad were cheering like mad! I only just beat Taran. I think I did quite well. I loved Cross Country and I hope all the other kids loved it to!

On Wednesday the 27 of October the year 3 boys girls and the year 4s',5s and 6 ran our cross country courses.First up was the year 3s they were tough fast so that made it a tough race for me.When all of the year 3 boys were lined up Mrs.Whittaker shouted"On your marks get set GO!!!! first all the year 3 boys started slow a bit and then started sprinting so then I started sprinting but I just couldn't keep up.

On Wednesday 27th of October it was cross country day. I was nervous on the way to Victoria Park because I hadn't run that far before.The race was of and Josh took the lead over everyone and the race was over and Josh won and I came 11th place. My brother came 2nd place.I was not happy that I came 11th place but I tried.

They were off to a great start.By the time they were finished josh had won the race. For the year three girls race Mackenzie was off she won that race. Marrick won the year four boys race and Madison won the year four girls race. Every body was very impressive at there race. Four people in room won the middles races. Ya!!! no more cross country practise. I think i done very well. I came fourteenth. Dad and mum was very proud of my running.

Christchuch earthquake

On Saturday at 4:30 in the morning an earthquake happened at Christchurch. It was 7.1 on the Richter scale. Some people's houses were crushed so they could not live in them. Shops were ruined with everything falling off shelves. Buses could not drive around town. The rail way track bent sideways. Roads were cracked. There was a metre deep hole in the ground. One person died of a heart attack. There were two major injuries. One person got cut by glass and the other one got hit by bricks. Kids helped to clear the dirt so did the army people.

On Saturday morning at 4:30 there was a big earthquake in Christchurch, it was 7.1 on the Richter scale.There was a big crack, one metre deep, in the road, in a persons garden and near a person's house. Sonny Bill Williams has a little brother and he came in in his underwear and said''Come on bro we have to go now''.Two people died, one from a heart attack,one from a chimney falling.

On Saturday morning at 4:30am Christchurch's huge earthquake happened. The earthquake measured 7.1 which is really bad because it is really big. People's homes were destroyed and leaned to the side. This kind of earthquake has not happened since the Napier earthquake which was many years ago. It will cost 3 billion dollars to repair the damage.

On Saturday in Christchurch there was a huge earthquake. The earthquake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. It was at 4:30 in the morning. It damaged over 10,000 houses. It will cost 3 billion dollars to repair the damaged city. Lots of people have come to help clean up the mess. There has been about 131 aftershocks. There is no power but there is water now. The schools are going to re open on Monday. The workers that have helped get paid 350 dollars a week. One person died of a heart attack and two other people got really bad injuries. There has also been a bit of flooding. It is going to take about 3 years to build the town back together. Familys have to go to welfare homes. The train tracks are all wonky and they are not suitable to drive on.

As part of our study about the earth, we are also creating some dioramas. These are basically a scene in a shoebox. Thomas brought his diorama to school to show us what they look like. He has made a fabulous job of it, and now we have some great ideas for making our own! I loved the paper exploding lava coming out of his volcano! Hot stuff!!

In room m we have have been learning earthquakes and volcanoes. Earthquakes are caused by tectonic plates moving and sliding together. Some volcanoes are extinct but some volcanoes are still active and can erupt at any time. When volcanoes erupt they can kill many people.Earthquakes also can kill many people and can damage lots of house and building.I like our topic theme this term.

Every day after maths we go to the hall for production practice. Soon we are going to have it. All the middles are going to do 'How the kiwi lost his wings.' I am a Tui. I have to go to the side of the stage to get my white feathers to put on my throat.

In room M we have been working on some stitchery. Most of us have finished our practice piece. We (the people who are done their other piece) have done the border of our good piece of hessian,now hessian is a piece of material that has holes in it all ready. Mrs Duff let all of us use her plastic needles. We have learnt the running and whipping stitch. STITCHERY IS COOL!!!

We are learning about volcanoes. When a volcano erupts its called lava but when it just going to erupt its called magma.I think Lava could travel over a distance of 150 km.

Returning to New Zealand

When I returned to NZ it felt a bit weird.2 I noticed it was cold when I arrived at Palmerston North. I was happy to be near home.Mum, Rob and I had to catch a taxi back home. Two days later I was at SCHOOL!Everyone was happy to see me! Everyone was happy to see me too!

Interviews

Today and tomorrow the whole school will be having parent teacher interviews so school will be closing at one thirty, but some people will be leaving at twelve thirty.Some parents will be coming today and some parents will be coming tomorrow.The teachers will be showing our parents our books that we have worked in this year.

Interviews

Interviews are happening tonight and tomorrow night so the school is closing at 1:30! Yahoo!! I am having mine tomorrow. We had to look through our portfolios and figure out what we were going to say when our parents come in. School interviews for children are called Parent Teacher Conferences. In Parent Teacher Conferences the child has to share what happened in class that is in their books. So if I had my portfolio I would have to share my samples and other things. If you are a school kid like me you would have to do these things like me. Parent Teacher Conferences happen a quarter of the way through term 1 and a quarter of the way through term 3. Parent Teacher Conferences are a way for your parents to find out what you have been doing in class and how much you have improved since last time your parents came in and saw all of your work. I like Parent Teacher Conferences because you get to show your parents what you have done and how you have improved lots and lots! By Alicia!

Production...Practice!

In week six or seven we're doing production. The narrator is Alex Graham, tanehokahoka is Samara Avery and tanemahuta is Nathan I don't know his last name. The birds are kiwis, pukekos, fantails and tuis. The insects are wetas, wasps, praying mantis and ladybirds. I'm a tree. We're doing it in the civic center, but we're practicing it in the hall.

Production Practice.

In week 7 we are having a school production, so we are having a practice nearly every week in the morning from 9:00 to 9:30. The main people are Alex Graham who is the narrator, Nathan is Tanemahuta and Samara is Tanehokahoka.There are insects,kiwis,trees,pukekos,fantails and tuis.I am a kiwi so I have to wear two suits a colourful one and a non-colourful one.It will be a hard job.We have to learn to sing some songs to go with it.

Room M has been for a visit to the Life Education van. Leonie talked to us about the circulatory system. We learnt that nutrients all end up in the blood. Nutrients are food, water and oxygen. Our blood travels all around our body taking the nutrients to our organs and our muscles.The brain sends a message all around your body even to your finger tips and your big toe.

Last week room M made some delicious toasted sandwiches as part of our instructional writing program. We had a selection of different fillings, and the end results were SCRUMPTIOUS!! Most of us liked cheese with something else, but some of us liked peanut butter, jam and honey! Alicia liked just about everything on hers!

Making desk tidies.

This morning we are re-using cardboard cylinders and turning them into desk tidies. We decorated the cylinders then glued them on to a piece of cardboard. We have to wait for it to dry before we can decorate the base.

Yummy soup!!

Yum! We're having vegetable soup. Everyone had to bring some kind of vegetable to school. I brought some yummy grated pumpkin because we had no Kumara or parsnip. The soup smells good but it does not looks good. Thomas brought the most pumpkin but he is not having any soup tomorrow because he will not be here. I wonder what it will taste like. I just heard that we might have just pumpkin in another pot. We are having soup because its enviro action day.

Yay! Were having soup tommorow. Were having vegetable soup. YUM!!! Every one in our class had to bring a vegetable to school. I brought a celery. I brought celery because I couldn't

bring kumara or parsnip. Thomas brought the most pumpkin. I hope I like the soup. It's cooking right now!!! It smells delicious.
